Day one

Am ok. House wet. Call jen. Mom.
It begins with this text message. My wife and I are glued to the TV watching everything go to hell, and it helps us relax.

For the next week, the only reliable communication with the coast will be text messages between cell phones.

Like a lot of people, I'd been comforting myself with the knowledge that my parent's home had survived Hurricane Camille. Survived without any water. I'm guessing this factored into my parent's decision to stay home instead of braving the insanity of Hwy 10.

-And this message was vindication. They'd made it through, and whatever else, I knew they'd manage.

Eleven days later I would be at my father's funeral.
