National Campaign for Fair Elections's Jonah Goldman offers a smack-your-head solution to voter registration fraud:
Require state governments to register everybody.
Seriously.
Australia does it - hell, they even require everyone to vote.

yep. my tailoring instructor's australian. you don't have to vote *for a candidate*, but you are required to show up and at least submit a null ballot -- or you will be fined, stiffly.
the problem *we* would have with this, is that the minute the government begins to fine people for not voting is the same minute that all your voting sh!t has to work flawlessly. no fair fining people for something they were prevented from doing.
and -- why do procedures for federal elections vary from state to state? ok, i actually do know why. i just think it's completely stupid, and that the law should be changed. laws regarding voting have changed bunches of times -- and you don't see nebraska getting to decide not to let nebraskan women vote. so states have some, but not all, control over the process within their borders? why do they need *any* control? or is that just the feds' way of getting the states to foot the election bill?
sincerely,
thorn
