The other kind of Spam

Awhile ago, a buddy of mine pointed out a relatively easy way to cut back on junk mail: use the prepaid return envelopes to send them a notice saying "Remove me from your mailing list." Since they're paying for the mail you don't want, as well as the postage of your request - they'll listen.

This is good - however, items without return envelopes get missed.

The corporate guardians of mailing lists everywhere have decided to help.

Actually, they want you to help save them money - but you get to save yourself some hassle as well.

Catalog Choice is a free service that allows you to decide what gets in your mailbox. Use it to reduce your mailbox clutter, while helping save natural resources.
Basically, you sign up - search for any catalog you current get and don't want - and tell them to stop sending it to you.

Catalog Choice contacts the vendor and you get one less catalog.

Corp types like it because their lists get cleaner (and cheaper).
Consumers like it because they get less crap in their mail.
Tree-huggers like it because less trees die - or at least less die needlessly.

Win, win, win.
