Friends in high places

Y'know what's interesting?

NSA Spying Part of Broader Effort
The Bush administration's chief intelligence official said yesterday that President Bush authorized a series of secret surveillance activities under a single executive order in late 2001. The disclosure makes clear that a controversial National Security Agency program was part of a much broader operation than the president previously described.

...

McConnell's letter was aimed at defending Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales from allegations by Democrats that he may have committed perjury by telling Congress that no legal objections were raised about the TSP.
Citizen watchdog groups, journalists, congressmen and senators ask for information about the Bush administration's surveillance activities - and get nothing.

Wait, the Attorney General's in the cross hairs? Wow, suddenly the DNI himself will write you a letter.

As in,
"Dear Senator Specter, Please excuse my friend from perjury. It is possible that he was only parsing his answers to an absurd degree in an attempt to mislead Congress. If that's what he was doing, it was only to conceal a massive surveillance operation that would horrify the nation.
Regards,
Mike McConnell, Director of National Intelligence."

McConnell only thinks he's helping. Makes you think we should accuse damn near everybody of perjury.

Might find out what the hell is going on in this administration.
