We’ve decided that [Internet Explorer version 8] will, by default, interpret web content in the most standards compliant way it can. This decision is a change from what we’ve posted previously. Microsoft recently published a set of interoperability Principles. Thinking about IE8’s behavior with these principles in mind, interpreting web content in the most standards compliant way possible is a better thing to do.For some reason - MS had decided to make IE8 standards compliant, to the point where it passed the acid 2 test. Then, they'd decided to make the standards compliant behavior the default mode. So, virtually no one would ever use it.
Developers, who have long dreamed of writing standardized web pages were incensed. Yet another version of IE, and still they will be asked to have an IE-specific stylesheet.
Well, MS has changed their minds (no takebacks!) so IE8 will be standards compliant, and the most popular browser in the world will no longer force developers to kowtow to its quirks.
Score!
