It's hard to figure out who to be more irritated at in the latest Senatorial showdown: the Dems for going to the mat on a no-confidence vote that does not (and cannot) have any teeth, or the Republicans for circling the wagons to prevent a vote even though many have admitted that they, in fact, do not have confidence in the Attorney General.
I've been disappointed with Sen. Specter over the past six years - for all his posturing, he always managed to vote the presidential line - so I'll give him props for voting for the resolution and spelling it out in honest terms. He doesn't have confidence in the A.G., so he's saying so.
Fair enough. Although, I'm suspicious enough to think that Sen. Specter may have counted the votes ahead of time and felt liberated enough to pose as his own man again.
In any event, it's pretty damn unimpressive all around. Once again we have all this puffing from the Dems about what a big deal this would be - and they had to know that without nine Republicans crossing the aisle, this was going nowhere. You'd figure they'd have learned already that there's no point in raising expectations if you're just going to lower them again.
