Narrator: John Smith's neighborhood in suburban Ohio has seen better days. Layoffs and home foreclosures have turned a once vibrant community into a near ghost town. Many have given up. John Smith hasn't.End Scene.
John Smith is shown talking in town hall meetings, assisting neighbors, and meeting with local government officials.
He's being interviewed in a cluttered office.
Interviewer: Why do you do it?
John Smith: This is my community. You can't give up on where you live.
John watches a TV sitting on the table next to him. Rudy Guiliani is speaking.
Rudy Guiliani: He worked as a community organizer. (laughs) What?John stares impassively.
Sarah Palin (OC): …like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities. (cheers, applause)
John hangs his head.
Interviewer: What are you thinking?
John shakes his head slowly.
Interviewer: If you could speak to Mr. Guiliani, to-
Smith: Look at my neighborhood. There's no help, there's just me and my neighbors. We quit - this place goes under. Simple as that.
Interviewer: Well-
Smith: You want to know what my responsibilities are? They're the things the Republicans have been ignoring for the last seven years.

It seems the bar for a great speech is rather low these days. While I would agree the delivery was good, the content, as partly noted here, was severely lacking, unless you're the Doberman contingent.
Absolutely.
No question she rose to the occasion. But its easy to be popular as an unknown.
The more people know about you, the lower you poll. Palin will start high, but she has nowhere to go but down.
