DoD: Our earlier repot was crap

Here's an encouraging sign. The Defense Department is withdrawing its earlier whitewash investigation of the Pentagon Advisers scandal. That'd be the one that the TV networks to this very day refuse to cover - because it implicates them in allowing DoD mouthpieces to push the administration's message - all the while under the mantle of being "independent military analysts."

You remember the investigation report, right? The one that read like it was put together by a few PR interns?

(Via the NYT)
According to [Pentagon deputy inspector general for policy and oversight, Donald M.] Horstman’s memorandum, the inspector general’s office “became aware of inaccuracies” in the report shortly after it was published and soon began “an independent internal review.” The internal review concluded that the report “did not meet accepted quality standards” and “relied on a body of testimonial evidence that was insufficient or inconclusive.”

The review found that the former senior Pentagon officials who devised and managed the program refused to speak with the inspector general’s investigators. It also found that the report’s methodology was so flawed that it “would not reasonably yield evidence” to address the issue of whether analysts used their special access to gain competitive advantage.

This is a positive step, although having been too optimistic in the past, I look forward to seeing a new and more inventive presentation of why it cannot be established that laws were broken and why it is best interests of the nation for us to all "move forward."
