Role reversal exercise: Hamdan

While I have no opinion on the guilt or innocence of Salim Ahmed Hamdan - It occurred to me that a bit of role reversal can be a useful counterbalance against the relentless meme of "Bin Laden's driver."

This man drove Bin Laden around. He's tight with Osama.

Now - he may very well be both of those things, and a mad bomber besides. But the "driver" label is hardly the pejorative that its getting presented as.

Imagine some alternate reality where President Bush is on the run from the International Criminal Court in the Hague - and the ICC gets a hold of his chauffeur.

And they put him on trial.

The media blitzes coverage of "Bush's driver"

This man drove Bush around. He's tight with George.

Sound stupid? Yeah - and not just because it would never happen, either.

He might just be a driver.
